En route to St. Paul from Chicago for a family reunion, we arrived in Lake City hungry, hot (93 degrees in August 2019) and with our dog. We sat in the shade of an umbrella at an outdoor table to consider our options, and Andy emerged from inside carrying a pan of water for the dog and menus for us. We ordered salads that were garden-fresh, and more water for the dog. Andy was affable, hospitable and attentive throughout. Only regret: no wine permitted to be served outside. If we're ever in Lake City again, this will be our No. 1 stop.

They hardly had anything they advertised and no pies at all! Their steaks were very bland and overcooked. We were very disappointed.

I was never impressed with the food there. I also now will refuse to eat after the owner pleaded guilty to sexual contact with a waitress there the same age as his daughter

The owner was charged with sexually assaulting a 17 year old girl.
Disgusting.
Sticky tables and menus. Dead orchids covered in cobwebs and dust. Even the walls of our booth were dirty.
The hash browns were undercooked, the eggs cold. The side of fruit was a week old. The corned beef hash tasted like dog food. The server was polite.
The owner, who did no work that I saw, outside of snacking, took a break from his phone to ask if I wanted something else. I said no thank you, twice, just the check please. After I refused, he awkwardly argued his hash was fine. Bruh bye. -

I had a WAY better experience the 2nd time around -- great food and friendly service!
I decided to give these guys another chance after getting tons of Yelp hate mail about my previous negative review. On my first visit, last summer, I never made it past the front entryway because, apparently, an employee was having a bad day. This time...much, much better!
First of all, every single employee (and the owner) was super damn friendly. It was genuine, not fake. The service was also first rate.
Second, the food was great. My Highway 61 Burger was awesome. And my friend's Steak & Clams was very good. Honestly, I expected the steak to be a rubbery Applebee's type of steak. Wrong - it was good.
Third, the prices were super reasonable.
FYI, if you have room, you have to try the pies! On the day we came, we had a mind boggling choice of 12 varieties. We picked the Strawberry Rhubarb Pie.
Lake City Family Restaurant...you won me over!
